This photo was taken at the park in Maroubra, prior to all of our guests arriving to celebrate the Mr’s 30th birthday.  We had a most excellent day in the sunshine, surrounded with friends, and eating plenty of lovely food.

Dress:  Handmade in Vietnam by a local tailor, this silk dress is so lovely to wear.  It’s the perfect picnic frock.  The circle skirt is plentiful enough that I can sit quite happily cross-legged and know that I’m not flashing any friends.  Definitely a factor to consider when selecting your picnic going frock.

Today I cooked a 3 course meal for 15 people in a silk dress!  We were planning on having the dinner party outside but the wind was so strong that we ended up staying inside.  I look like I’m bending at an odd angle in this photo, because it was so cold!

Dress:  Silk, from Misery Boutique in Auckland.  I wore this on day 26 of my challenge last year.  It fits so beautifully, and feels great on.

One day of my Frocktober pledge to go people!  If you haven’t donated yet, there’s still time!

Today’s Frock is a Lotus wrap that i’ve tied with a little creativity to make a super comfortable drapey frock.  They’re made from vintage indian sari silk, which is so lovely and soft to wear against the skin.

You’ll have to excuse my expression in the above photo.  A neighbour has been noisily clearing his throat for about two hours now, not the nicest thing to hear while you’re trying to get some photos taken.  Or any time, for that matter!

Today’s Frocktober frock is a work in progress.  I’m wearing it today, mostly, unless it’s under the sewing machine needle or the iron.  It used to be my mothers, i’m not sure how old she was when she wore it.  It’s been made without any overlocking, so it must have been made by my grandmother for my mother when she was a teenager.  Someone (probably Nana) has hacked at the back of it to remove the zip, so there is a huge hole where fabric should be.  I’m trying to work out the best way to fix it and make it wearable, it’s definitely a challenge.  I’m thinking of taking off the sleeves and giving it a nice low back – what do you think?  Any ideas?  I’m a little stuck and the moment!

The most excellent thing about this is that it fits me!  How cool is it that a dress my teeny tiny mother used to wear when she was young fits me!  Yay!!

Today’s not just Frocktober day 26 – it’s also Joh’s birthday!  Happy Birthday honey!!  We met for a wonderful long lunch at the excellent Rockpool Bar and Grill.

Today’s beaufiful silk frock was a birthday gift from Joh several years ago.  It came from Misery Boutique in Auckland, which has sadly now closed.  It’s such a shame because her dresses were oh so lovely.

I love the shape of the sleeves, they’re just the sweetest.

Playing along with Pip from Meet me at Mikes.  This weeks theme is bedside and was chosen by Pottymouthmama.

The shelf that holds all kinds of fun things:

The Narwhal toy I bought for Joh in San Francisco

The French kitty my beautiful friend Josephine made for my birthday this year

Assorted Plush Microbes, and a zombie kitty

The enormous blanket that took almost an entire year to knit

Assorted warm things, hand made and vintage

My collection of PJ’s and nighties

My friend Rosa-may drew this incredible picture of me, wearing the crochet scarf she made for me.  I love it so much!

The set of drawers that my grandfather made for my mother, that I repainted blue as a teenager.  I had been holding on to the lamp stand for years without a shade waiting for the perfect thing, then one day I found this at the Surry Hills Markets.  It’s perfect in so many ways.  I’m so glad I waited until I found something I really liked.

On the wall is the gorgeous print entitled ‘making friends’ from the artists APAK.  I purchased it from the lovely Outre Gallery.  A little gift for Joh a few years back.  Just because I love him so.

Goodness, this Frocktober business totally got me today.  I didn’t realise when I left the house that it would be such a warm day, so i’ve been melting slowly all day in this dress.  Black is always a bad idea on a hot day, positively stupid on a 33 degree day!  Luckily it’s cotton otherwise I really would have melted.

I had this shirt dress tailor-made for me while we were in Vietnam last year.  The belt is actually a vintage silk scarf that I picked up from an op shop a while back.

It splits quite high at the front when I walk, so when I have a moment i’m going to sew a little snap closure on the button band.

Today’s Frocktober dress was tailor-made for me while we were on holiday in Vietnam last year.  It’s a beautiful heavy silk fabric, and is an absolutely perfect fit.

I made the belt last year to wear with another of my dresses, but i think it looks quite cute with this one too.

Yay!  I just found out today that i’ve raised $105 for the Australian Ovarian Cancer Research Foundation so far.  Keep it coming!!

Today’s Frocktober frock is my lovely floaty summer Gorman dress.  Gorman are a Melbourne label, who have a store here in Sydney, but ironically I actually got this dress in Auckland one year in winter.  And it was raining!  The dress itself is cotton and all of the ties are silk.  I’ve tied all the shoulder pieces behind my neck for a different look today, it’s supposed to have them done up on your shoulders as big bows, but I’m not really into that look.

PA130029

It’s a beautiful day in Sydney today, 25 degrees and sunny.  I took my lunch and ate it in the park in the sun.  Lovely!  It’s still pretty windy though, and I had a few near misses with the wind picking up the bottom of my skirt.  Somehow this frock doesn’t look so elegant when I’m walking along holding most of the skirt in one hand  :)
