It’s the little things… March 4, 2011

Like a tiny coffee in a tiny vintage cup.
I picked up two of these pretty blue tea cups on my recent trip to NZ from a blink-and-you’ll-miss-it church op-shop. I’ve seen this style of tea cup around in plenty of op-shops, but never in this lovely colour. They have an imprint on the base of the cup that says Made in New Zealand. I paid the princely sum of 20c for both!
Listen to this beautiful song today and think about all the little things. You’ll be better for it I think.

Today J has the day off work, so we headed out for a late breakfast at Fratelli Paradiso in Potts Point. Delicious food, as always. The company wasn’t bad either!
I got plenty of odd looks while posing here, which is strange considering the high percentage of posers that live in our area. Go figure.
Dress: I bought this to wear to my friend Kate’s Hen’s night. It’s quite short, so I like to wear a pair of leggings underneath so as to not shock any sensitive locals. Purchased from the ever wonderful Zoo Clothing in Surry Hills. Yes, it’s pretty much the only place I shop for quality dresses now.

Today’s frock is another of my Muumuu’s! It’s a recent acquisition, one I picked up from an estate sale a few months back. I think I paid $15 for it. At the time I thought it was just beautiful fabric, but when I got home I realised that it was actually a Muumuu. Much hilarity ensued.
My plan was to shorten it, but my girlfriends all want me to keep it as is. I guess it’s hippy chic for me this summer!
Dress: Vintage Muumuu, made from what I think is a cotton/linen blend. It’s perfectly roomy, without the dreaded tent look that some other Muumuu’s have. Love it!
Here’s a close up of the fabric – isn’t it incredible!

Today is my lovely boyfriend’s 30th birthday, so I packed a picnic and met him in The Domain for lunch.
Dress: This dress is new to me as of Saturday. It was donated to the Frock swap by my friend Virginia. It’s a very fine, soft fabric that drapes beautifully. The top is a big big for me so I’ve improvised by pinning it together with one of my Nana’s brooches.
Belt: A cheap leather imitation purple tie belt, picked up from some chain store in the specials bin ages ago. The belt was actually much higher when I left the house, but after a rather rigorous cycle around town it’s made it’s way down to my hips. It looks much better up higher, but I’m sure you get the idea.

I have a confession to make. I am the owner of not one, but three Muumuu’s.
Today’s frock is the first Muumuu that I ever owned. I bought it for a hawaiian themed party we threw many moons ago. It was so perfect!
Dress: Vintage polyester Muumuu, picked up from a vintage store in Newtown many years ago. The print is of palm trees, rocky islands, and tiny windsurfers. Hawaii is written on the sails of the boats. Yes folks, that’s how cool this is. I have no intention of ever parting ways with it.

Today we went to our friend Noa’s 1st birthday party, which is why I’m wearing this party hat!
I nabbed this dress yesterday, in our afternoon frock swap. My friend Virginia donated it, and I love it. Thanks Virginia!
Dress: Otto Mode stretch cotton tunic. It’s so comfortable and soft, what a great dress! I wore a black slip under it, which is what you can see poking out from underneath.

Today I hosted an afternoon tea and frock swap to raise some funds for Frocktober. I’ve just looked in the collection tin and there’s $170 in there! Fantastic!
We all had a lovely time eating cakes, drinking bubbles, and swapping our pre-loved threads. It poured down right in the middle of our afternoon tea so we all had to move inside quick smart. This photo was taken right in the middle of the hardest downpour of the day. The things we do!
Dress: This one is the perfect picnic dress, a breezy cotton Gorman sundress with silk ties. Love it.

Another day, another foray into awkward self portraits. This one was taken in a teeny tiny park around the corner from my house. You could perhaps have a picnic for 4 in it, if you were really good friends. Although I didn’t actually see anyone watching me it’s quite likely there was someone in one of the town houses wondering what on earth I was doing taking multiple photos of myself. Poser.
Dress: Vintage Muumuu! I believe that this came from my favourite vintage store – Zoo Clothing. It’s lovely and breezy to wear, and kinda cute I think. Much more flattering than my other two muumuu’s (both of which you’ll see before the month is out).

Today I kind of failed with my self portrait photographs. I took these photos in the park at the fountain at Kings Cross this afternoon. There were a few local dodgy types hanging around, so I wanted to get the photos taken quick smart and not draw too much attention to myself. I love my camera and I really don’t want someone thieving it from me!
Dress: Gifted to me by a friend a couple of years back now. It’s such a great light cotton dress, and the print is fabulous. I find this dress always makes me feel a bit washed out in summer when I wear it though. Must be my pasty British heritage coming through. I’m hosting a frock exchange this Saturday afternoon, and I think this wee number might be added to the exchange pile. It deserves to be worn more than a couple of times a year. It’s such a sweet little dress.
Legs: Leona Edminston stockings. Great stockings, I love that the tall size is actually Tall!
Cardigan: Bought from Gorman a couple of years back when they used to have ridiculously great sales. I always feel like a librarian when I wear this cardigan for some reason.
