Frocktober (day 26) October 26, 2010

Today is my lovely boyfriend’s 30th birthday, so I packed a picnic and met him in The Domain for lunch.

Dress:  This dress is new to me as of Saturday.  It was donated to the Frock swap by my friend Virginia.  It’s a very fine, soft fabric that drapes beautifully.  The top is a big big for me so I’ve improvised by pinning it together with one of my Nana’s brooches.
Belt:  A cheap leather imitation purple tie belt, picked up from some chain store in the specials bin ages ago.  The belt was actually much higher when I left the house, but after a rather rigorous cycle around town it’s made it’s way down to my hips.  It looks much better up higher, but I’m sure you get the idea.

If you’d like to sponsor me for my Frocktober challenge please head here to donate.  My registration number is 664999.

Our lovely friends Fiona and Tarek recently got engaged, and had an party yesterday afternoon to celebrate.

We took along a little engagement present of some of my handmade napkins.

The fabric I used came from an estate sale that I went to recently.  I’m guessing it’s probably from the late 60’s?  It’s an amazing cotton print, the purple watermelon is so cool.  I used an old sheet to back these napkins – that way they’re double-sided and they’ll last for ages.

Fabric napkins are perfect for picnics, dinner parties, and everyday use.  We use fabric napkins all the time at home- we just love them.

Congratulation Fiona and Tarek!  We’re so very happy for you both!

Suitcase love September 28, 2010

I picked up this suitcase this morning from Reverse Garbage in Taylor Square.  The perfect shade of blue, and just the right size.  Small enough for carry-on, but large enough to be useful for storage when I’m not jet-setting around the world.  This little beauty set me back the grand total for $8.  A total bargain!

I also came home with a pile of upholstery fabric to use for the backs of some new Picnic Blankets.  I’m going to be making them again this year to sell for Christmas.  Watch this space!

My sweet, supportive, totally awesome friend Reenie got engaged to her man Daniel recently.  Yay!

This is what I made for them as an engagement present – a picnic blanket embroidered with their names.  I was going to stitch a heart around the text but decided to leave it more subtle.

Congratulations Reenie and Dan!  Here’s to many happy days in the sunshine together!

My sweet amazing friend Rosa-May is heading back to New Zealand to live.  I am sad for me, but happy for her.  She and her beau Bruce just got engaged and I’m so very happy for them!

I am going to miss her so much, only people who know this girl can really understand how much fun can be had whilst in her company.

We met at the Cafe I used to work at.  This friendship is the very best thing to come out of my two years of employment there.

Hands down, she’s one of the best people that I have ever met.  She’s a gem.

Rosa-May and her sister Stella are both incredibly talented artists, and have started an online business together selling their stationery.  Beautiful.  I’d highly recommend that you consider their wares if you’re needing a unique lovely gift.
