Frocktober (day 26) October 26, 2010

Today is my lovely boyfriend’s 30th birthday, so I packed a picnic and met him in The Domain for lunch.
Dress: This dress is new to me as of Saturday. It was donated to the Frock swap by my friend Virginia. It’s a very fine, soft fabric that drapes beautifully. The top is a big big for me so I’ve improvised by pinning it together with one of my Nana’s brooches.
Belt: A cheap leather imitation purple tie belt, picked up from some chain store in the specials bin ages ago. The belt was actually much higher when I left the house, but after a rather rigorous cycle around town it’s made it’s way down to my hips. It looks much better up higher, but I’m sure you get the idea.

You’d be right in thinking that this dress looks really formal.
It’s my old school ball gown from my first ball when I was 16! I do have to say, I’m pretty chuffed that my ball gown still fits me from 14 years ago.
My Mother made it for me, and I just loved it at the time. When I went back to NZ for a visit at Christmas time I unearthed this beauty and decided to bring it home with me. You never know when you’ll need a floor length gown I guess. Now that I am do some sewing myself, I can really appreciate how much work went into making this dress for me. I avoid sewing with satin at all costs because of the slippyness of the fabric. Mum must have had the patience of a saint to make this for me.
I do have some vague memories of threatening words being said to the sewing machine though…
Dress: Handmade for me by my sweet Mum, 14 years ago!

Rosa-May wanted to know what I wanted for my birthday this year, and I asked her to draw something for me.
I cried when I opened this on the night. So special.
I sanded back an old blue frame and repainted it brown last week. I love it!
(In case you’re wondering, it’s supposed to be the Mr and I). So sweet!

My sweet amazing friend Rosa-May is heading back to New Zealand to live. I am sad for me, but happy for her. She and her beau Bruce just got engaged and I’m so very happy for them!
I am going to miss her so much, only people who know this girl can really understand how much fun can be had whilst in her company.
We met at the Cafe I used to work at. This friendship is the very best thing to come out of my two years of employment there.
Hands down, she’s one of the best people that I have ever met. She’s a gem.
Rosa-May and her sister Stella are both incredibly talented artists, and have started an online business together selling their stationery. Beautiful. I’d highly recommend that you consider their wares if you’re needing a unique lovely gift.

Mum and Dad were here for a short visit this week.
I absolutely love that first photo of the three of us – I almost dropped the camera right before I took this shot.
We’re a pretty funny bunch.
Mum’s laughing in the last photo too, by the way. xx

My dear friend Rosa-May is a very talented artist and photographer. Right now she’s running a giveaway on her beautiful blog, and I think you should head over there and check it out.
She and her sister Stella also have a store full of beautiful illustrated stationary. I highly recommend you head over there and stock up on their beautiful things. It would make me so happy if you supported my sweet friends!
The giveaway will be drawn this coming Friday, the 6th of August. That, my friends, is my birthday! Go there, enter her giveaway and win something. I dare you!
