It’s the little things… March 4, 2011

Like a tiny coffee in a tiny vintage cup.

I picked up two of these pretty blue tea cups on my recent trip to NZ from a blink-and-you’ll-miss-it church op-shop.  I’ve seen this style of tea cup around in plenty of op-shops, but never in this lovely colour.  They have an imprint on the base of the cup that says Made in New Zealand.  I paid the princely sum of 20c for both!

Listen to this beautiful song today and think about all the little things.  You’ll be better for it I think.

I’ve just made this pretty garland to act as signage for my Saponify market stalls.

This Saturday I have a stall at the Reservoir Bazaar at The Winery in Surry Hills.  If you’re in the area make sure you pop by.   It’s a great chance to grab some last minute Christmas gifts, and a fun day out to boot!

Today J has the day off work, so we headed out for a late breakfast at Fratelli Paradiso in Potts Point.  Delicious food, as always.  The company wasn’t bad either!

I got plenty of odd looks while posing here, which is strange considering the high percentage of posers that live in our area.  Go figure.

Dress:  I bought this to wear to my friend Kate’s Hen’s night.  It’s quite short, so I like to wear a pair of leggings underneath so as to not shock any sensitive locals.  Purchased from the ever wonderful Zoo Clothing in Surry Hills.  Yes, it’s pretty much the only place I shop for quality dresses now.

Oops!  I woke up this morning and realised that I had forgotten to update yesterday’s frock.  Bad blogger!

I love this dress so much.  It was one of those finds where you can’t quite believe that you’ve found something so cool, so you cling to it possessively until you get to the changing room.  That’s how it is with vintage clothing shopping.  There’s not going to be another one in the back room somewhere, so you have to guard your precious very closely.

Dress:  Bought from the wonderful Zoo Clothing in Surry Hills.  One of my more expensive pieces – I think this may have cost about $65 at the time.  It’s beautifully cut, and I’ve always loved the way the dress is designed with the great collar.  It’s a little creased in this photo, mainly because I couldn’t be bothered getting out the iron.  Just imagine it perfectly pressed.

So far I’ve raised $400 for the Ovarian Cancer Research Foundation this year, which is just wonderful!  I’ll be rattling the donation bucket at the Mr’s birthday picnic this weekend so hopefully that will increase the overall total.  Yay!

Today I jumped on my trusty old bike and we headed to Glebe together to see my friend Satomi.  Satomi gave my hair a much needed trim and tidied up my somewhat unruly fringe.  It’s amazing how much better I feel now that my bangs have been tamed again, thanks Satomi!

Dress:  Op-shopped, shortened, taken in.  Total cost $4.  This dress wasn’t always so cute.  You can read more about it’s transition from cast-away tent to much beloved frock here.

Today I went to the Better Homes and Gardens LIVE event at Homebush.  Today’s photo was taken while I was admiring one of the lovely dogs they had in one of the pet food exhibits.

The second photo shows the close up of the dress fabric.  It’s a really beautiful floral print.

Dress:  Vintage, bought some years ago and now sadly starting to wear quite thin.

Today the weather was a bit cool, then a bit sunny, then rainy, then cool again.  Which meant that I was alternately under-dressed, over-dressed, rained on, and finally under-dressed.

Spring is a difficult time of the year for frock wearing ladies!

Dress:  From NZ store Ruby, about 4 years old now.  Lovely, soft stretch cotton with a low contrast waist band.  It’s getting pretty thin, so I can probably only get another summer out of this before I have to retire it to at-home-only-wear.
Coat:  I don’t know if this is a coat, or a long cardigan, or a jacket.  It’s short sleeved, and slouchy, and perfect for this time of year.

Yesterday we headed to a friend’s 30th birthday party on their families farm in south west Sydney.  It was beautiful being out of the city for the day – we had such a great time relaxing and hanging out.

Dress:  Vintage, found at Zoo Emporium in Surry Hills.  This is hands down my favourite dress.  I love the pattern on the fabric, the cut of the dress, and the length.  It’s got pockets too – a necessary requirement for any perfect summer dress I think.
Cardigan:  Hand-me-down from my friend Rosa-may.  It was handed-down to her from a friend too.  It’s my new go-to cardigan.  Big and slouchy and a perfect shade of red.  I love it!

Our lovely friends Fiona and Tarek recently got engaged, and had an party yesterday afternoon to celebrate.

We took along a little engagement present of some of my handmade napkins.

The fabric I used came from an estate sale that I went to recently.  I’m guessing it’s probably from the late 60’s?  It’s an amazing cotton print, the purple watermelon is so cool.  I used an old sheet to back these napkins – that way they’re double-sided and they’ll last for ages.

Fabric napkins are perfect for picnics, dinner parties, and everyday use.  We use fabric napkins all the time at home- we just love them.

Congratulation Fiona and Tarek!  We’re so very happy for you both!
